One-day Dissemination Conference: Guidelines for use of welded stainless steel in corrosive environments

A one day seminar organized by TWI and Swerea KIMAB AB will take place at TWI Granta Park (Cambridge) on the 27th of January where the results from the European Project RFCS JOINOX will be presented. It will deal with the relationship between welded joints oxides, corrosion resistance of welded joints and post-weld cleaning strategies.

Organizing committee:

Swerea KIMAB AB, Voestalpine, TWI Limited, Fundació CTM Centre Tecnològic, Outokumpu Stainless AB, Sandvik Materials Technology, Max-Planck-Institut fuer Eisenforschung

Location: TWI Granta Park (Cambridge, UK)

Date: 27th January 2016

Fee: free of charge

Guidelines for use of welded stainless steel in
corrosive environments - JOINOX

During welding of stainless steels thermal oxides form and may, unless removed,
cause severe reduction in corrosion resistance. They are often the underlying
cause behind structural failures and in many applications it is necessary to
remove them through combination of cleaning operations.

JOINOX is a 3.5 year project sponsored by the Research fund for Coal and Steel
(RFCS), the aim of this project is to develop a scientifically based guideline to
determine fitness for purpose weld oxide surface and suggest appropriate
post-weld cleaning strategies
